Torchlight
Gender Support
About Us
The Torchlight Gender Support Group meets once per month to provide a
safe place to explore the issues of transgenderism. Our primary goal is
to help the transgendered individual to replace the all-consuming shame
and guilt at being transgendered with the self-acceptance, comfort and
self-confidence that we deserve.
Some of the topics of past and future meetings are:
- Discussing of problems that a transgendered person faces and
sharing suggested solutions.
- Finding yourself - understanding, accepting, and expressing the
real you.
- Coming out to family, friends, work, school and others.
- Locating the right doctors (physician and psychologist) to
assist in freeing your true self.
- Discovering about hormones, their effects and their
availability.
- Learning about Gender Reassignment Surgery (GRS).
- Discussing electrolysis and how to find an electrologist.
- Sharing information on other medical procedures.
- Human Rights issues in Ontario and Canada.
- Hearing guest speakers (doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists,
social workers, etc.)
Meetings
Are held on the first Monday of the month from 7pm to 9pm.
All transgendered (no matter what stage you are at) and their
families are welcome to attend.
